Cruelty-free bargains - December 2015

Christmas is over, the New Year's approaching - what better way to celebrate than spending the little money you have left on beauty products?! In the spirit of saving (one of my New Year's resolutions), I've tried to keep this to things that are actually a really good bargain, or essentials that you wouldn't normally see reduced. Writing these kinds of posts always leaves me feeling pretty spendy - I wonder if I'll survive without purchasing something...

Cruelty-free beauty advent calendars

As always, there's been a huge hype around beauty advent calendars as we approach Christmas - there are an array of options available, but it can be a little difficult to steer the market if you choose to go cruelty-free. Unfortunately we have to avoid the multiple-brand offerings as I'm yet to find one that features all cruelty-free products, but there's some great ones from some of my favourite brands that would make a great gift or a treat for yourself. Let's do this...

REVIEW: No7 Airbrush Away Foundation

I'll admit it - I was completely sucked in by the pipette-style packaging of No7's latest foundation release. I don't know why, but I'm totally drawn to these kinds of bases. Super lightweight, easy to blend and natural coverage, its claims are right up my street really, so after a few weeks of resisting I finally gave in and bought it!

Spa Find Hair & Body Muds

Spa Find is a completely new brand to me, but one I'll certainly be trying more of in future. I was kindly sent the Mineralising Shampoo and Mineralising Hair & Body Mud a few weeks back, but didn't end up trying it out until a recent spa weekend - I've been using it ever since.

Five minutes with: Sally Curson

This week I've been chatting to the lovely Sally Curson, who owns cruelty-free skincare brand Face Matters. But there's more to this lady than business and beauty acumen!

Cruelty Free Basics #2 - the Chinese laws

When researching cruelty-free beauty, you may notice a lot of sources mentioning products that are sold in mainland China. These brands are generally deemed to test on animals, and us cruelty-free aficionados will steer well clear. But what are the exact laws? Let's clear it up...

Barry M (sort of) Nudes

If you either know me personally, read this blog regularly or follow my Instagram/Twitter, you'll probably have gathered that I love Barry M. They're my favourite bargain brand for sure - they do colour well, they're dirt cheap and they've been cruelty-free from the start.

So, I had a naughty browse in Boots last weekend and couldn't help but purchase a few bits - some new, some not. Here's some initial thoughts...

SKIN SOOTHERS: The Green Balm

For the last six to eight months, I've been suffering with hormonal breakouts (sob) - which has set me on a mission to find the best products for my new problematic and temperamental skin type. A friend of mine introduced me to the Magic Organic Apothecary (or MOA) and their fabulous The Green Balm - which is 100% natural, cruelty-free and suitable for even the most sensitive of skins.

Cult product on trial: Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray

For the past few months I've been testing out a product that most bloggers seem to love - the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray. So what do I think? I cast my cynic's eye over it...

Feel Unique sale - cruelty-free picks!

Every year, I find myself sucked-in to the Feel Unique sale once again. This time around of course, I'm much more limited in what I can buy - so I thought I'd round-up a few of my top cruelty-free picks from the site, in case you're in the mood for a bargain...

THE EDIT: loose pigments

To me, a pigment is one of the most pleasing of products. They're just so, well, pigmented. If you're in the market for an eye colour that packs a punch, then these really are the way to go - use them wet for a foil effect, or dry to add that extra something to any eye look. Here are some of my favourites...

ON-TRIAL: cruelty-free sun protection

SPF is quite the buzzword at the moment, with some hot debates going on about the quality of protection certain brands are offering, and constant updates to textures and formulations. Throw in the cruelty-free thing and your options are fairly limited - so what have I been using?

FOUND - a cruelty-free beauty salon!

Anyone who's taken the decision to go cruelty-free will know how hard it is to find a salon that offers treatments that cater to those preferences - most of the time, it's nigh on impossible. So when I heard about Organica Natural Beauty, I was really excited.

Reviewed: Barry M Flawless Light Reflecting Concealers

Barry M has been one of my favourite makeup brands for years - certain products in their line are staples that I always come back to. They've launched loads of great new products in recent years though, a lot of which I haven't had a chance to try. So when I found myself in Boots a few weeks back I thought it would be (frankly) rude not to pick up their latest offering.

Disappointing product alert! bareMinerals Lash Domination mascara

I hate to moan, but every so often a product comes along that makes the wrong kind of impression on me and I feel it (rather dramatically) necessary to immediately warn those around me.

NEW IN: Soap & Glory Archery 2-in-1 Brow

A casual mooch in Boots recently led me to discover a new launch to Soap & Glory's Archery brow range. I'm a big fan of this line in general; they're really good at reacting to makeup trends and have created some of my favourite brow products in the past, so I was intrigued to give it a go.

Palmer's Rapid Moisture Spray Lotions - review

The (fairly recent) introduction of spray-mist moisturisers to the beauty market was kind of a revelation for me - I'm a reluctant moisturisee at best, so anything that speeds up the process or makes it less sticky and time-consuming pleases me greatly.
